Mogu Mogu is a hidden gem in Costa Mesa, serving up delicious mazemen, a brothless ramen dish where all the flavor comes from the sauce and toppings. We ordered the Kyoto (non-spicy) and Tokyo (spicy), and both were fantastic. The fun part is mixing everything together, which really brings the flavors to life. The Tokyo had just the right amount of kick, while the Kyoto was perfectly savory. At the end, they give you a scoop of rice to mix with any leftover sauce--it absorbs everything and adds an extra layer to the experience. The spot is small but cozy, and the food here is even better than Menya Hanabi, plus it's a bit cheaper. If you're looking for a unique ramen experience, Mogu Mogu is a must-try!

This place is worth the wait! I wasn't sure what to expect when my friend suggested dry ramen.... but her suggestions are always spot-on. We began with the kimchi which was deliciously tart & tangy. My dish was awesome (Cutry Mazeman). The spice was perfect and the extra scoop of rice at the end of the meal was just what I needed to enjoy the last of the sauce. I'm definitely coming back to this spot!

Updated review: Still 5 stars. Tried their curry mazemen and it was amazing. Even better than the Tokyo one in my opinion.

Ahh, the elusive world of noodle mastery - how I've longed to be initiated into its slurp-tastic secrets! And let me tell you, this place was like finding the Holy Grail of ramen joints. Now, I'll admit, when my dining companion suggested we try the "Deluxe" - the so-called "everything" ramen - I was a tad skeptical. I mean, how can you pack all that flavor into one measly bowl, right? Boy, was I in for a rude (and delicious) awakening. From the first sip of that steaming broth, I knew I had stumbled upon something truly special. It was like a symphony of tastes, each instrument (or, you know, ingredient) harmonizing to create a flavor explosion that had me questioning why I hadn't been eating ramen this way my entire life. And then came the Kyoto ramen - spicy pork, you say? Sign me up! But here's the kicker: the heat didn't overpower the dish, no, it just added a delightful little zing that danced across my taste buds, leaving me wanting more. Bravo, chef, bravo! But the real showstopper? The cheese ramen. I mean, who would have thought to combine those two culinary powerhouses? Not me, that's for sure. But let me tell you, it was a match made in noodle heaven. The cheese held its own, standing tall amidst the spicy pork accoutrements. It was like a savory, melty surprise in every bite. By the time we finished our meal, I was seriously contemplating moving in and becoming a permanent resident of this ramen paradise. The simplicity of the menu only added to the allure - no fuss, no frills, just pure, unadulterated noodle nirvana. And just when I thought the experience couldn't get any better, they went and offered us a small scoop of rice to soak up all the yumminess of the sauce. It was like a little bonus round of flavor, a perfect way to end the noodle-filled extravaganza. So, to the masterminds behind this culinary gem, I tip my hat to you. You've officially opened my eyes to a whole new world of ramen possibilities, and I'll be back, bowl in hand, ready to slurp my way through the rest of your menu. Bring on the noodly goodness, I say!

I might be biased but Mogu Mogu is the first and only place I've had mazemen. If you haven't had it before it's a broth-less noodle with toppings. It is a heavy meal overall and does have a lot of garlic (something to note if you're not a fan). You grind sesame seeds and add some vinegar to cut the grease and heaviness, and then eat a small spoon of rice with the leftover meat/sauce. I can guarantee you'll be full and satisfied if you finish the entire bowl. It is a rather small restaurant with only a few tables, so do expect to wait if you come during peak times. I personally don't recommend sitting outside because they do have a fly problem .

Mogu Mogu is a local Mazemen restaurant in Costa Mesa. Mazemen is a soupless ramen that still retains the rich flavors of ramen while having thicker noodles for a great chew. I personally love this location, as the flavors of the dishes are excellent for me. I will say the restaurant is a little small, so it does get pretty busy. Unfortunately there's no Yelp waitlist, so come early to write your name down on the waitlist! The service is always really friendly and attentive, and their happy hour deals are actually pretty worth it! Overall, this is an excellent alternative to ramen, and I highly recommend Mogu Mogu.

My second time at this location and a total of three times at Mogu Mogu. Costa Mesa is much smaller compared to the Fullerton location so if they're busy it can be quite a wait, but they are so fast and efficient it won't feel too long. The food between the two locations are equally great tasting and delicious. Because it's so small, the ambiance gives me a true Japanese vibe. Made me feel like I was back in Japan.

I tried Mogu Mogu a bit over a year ago and knew I wanted to try it again during my short trip to the OC area! Their Mazemen is so delicious - it's a noodle dish served without broth and instead with a sauce and a variety of toppings. It's recommended that you mix everything up really well and then halfway through, you add vinegar for a new taste! They also come by with a scoop of rice near the end of your meal so that it can be mixed with the leftover sauce!!! It's basically three variations of your meal in one! I loved trying the mazemen at each step and really enjoyed the thickness and texture of the noodles! Highly recommend getting the Tokyo which has spicy minced pork, poached egg, scallions, chives, minced garlic, fish umami, seaweed flakes. My boyfriend tried the curry option and wished he got the same one as me instead. We did have to wait quite some time between ordering and getting our food.
